ABOUT PETER

Peter Varga is a Dublin-based photographer, storyteller, and creator of Humans of Dublin, one of Ireland’s most recognisable social documentary projects. Since 2014, Humans of Dublin has shared more than 2,500 portraits and interviews, reaching over 600,000 people weekly. His work captures the honesty of everyday life, stories of loss, hope, resilience, and love, told through intimate portraits and  powerful stories.

His best-selling book Humans of Dublin was published by Gill Books in 2016, and his photography has been exhibited in the Guinness Storehouse, Dublin City Council, and libraries and vnues throughout the city. His projects have also appeared in The Sunday Times, The Irish Times, The Irish Independent, The Guardian, BBC, and RTÉ Radio 1.

Through partnerships with organisations including Diageo, Dublin City Council, Salesforce, Culture Date with Dublin 8, Bord Bia, Google, the National Library of Ireland, the Heritage Council, and charities such as Movember, Focus Ireland, The Simon Community, and DSPCA, Peter continues to use storytelling to connect communities and generations.

Beyond Humans of Dublin, he explores how photography can preserve personal and collective memory. His project Time Capsule Sessions invites people to record their stories, voices, and portraits as a legacy for future generations. Blending community art, portraiture, and digital storytelling, Peter’s work remains grounded in real life yet poetic in how it reveals the human condition. Through Humans of Dublin, he has created a mirror of modern Dublin — a living archive that reflects the depth, complexity, and compassion of its people.
